Patriotism means love of one’s country, feel proud of belonging to land of his forefathers. If we are to be patriots we must know something about our country, past history, drink deep into the lessons from the buried past. Although we preach the Gospel of brotherliness, that racialism is undesirable, still the intention is not to kill the love an individual has towards his particular race or clan.
Africa was called a dark continent because of its unrecorded histories, pity that most of the information about our ancestors has not been brought to light. The present generation of Bantu do not know much of history beyond requirements of an exam room. They know just that info they find in history books, a great deal of which is not detailed and does not dwell on those facts which we as Bantu would reckon as important and be proud to declare to wordl.
It would be a good thing if the different races of the Bantu Family could each in turn give a brief summary of the qualities found in their particular race. Would be useful to the growing generation, create patriotic feelings in their young hearts.
All we read in books is that our people were a barbarous nation, treacherous, ungodly, bloodthirsty, wild, undisciplined and untrustworthy. Surely there must have been some good points about our people. I shall write about olden times in Zululand which will show Zulus were and are a noble race.
Every kraal was self contained and self supporting. Definite daily work for everybody.
Zulus were early risers, two meals a day.
Lived a tribal life in an autocratic state, king and councillors formed High Court. Etc etc.
