What is to be done to this generation which seems so wild, so independent, no self respect as far as good morals are concerned. Moral standard of Bantu people was dependent on system of tribes, who had special system of Laws and Custom. In the olden days before Western Civilization Bantu youth was protected by different customs found in each tribe. Growing boys and girls made into regiments. It prized its name, any member who disgraced regiment was punished severely. Today there is a big talk that the Bantu have lost their moral standard. Tribal live has died a natural death to give way to Western civilization. Parents have to spend more time away from homes. Children left at home with only mother to discipline them. Mothers too seldom remain at home the whole day. Environment in slums is unwholesome. Some of the Europeans who have the interests of Bantu at heart have found means by which this loss of Bantu morals may be compensated. Shown us movements to take place of the system of regiments. Some of these movements are: the YMCA, the Wayfarers, the Sunbeams.
Wayfarer movement: this is a movement on the same lines as Girl Guides. Aim is to encourage Bantu women to live a clean womanly life. It is a xian movement. Est by Mrs Rheinallt Jones of Joburg. The native people are really delighted with this kind of movement, has net no opposition. Work retarded by insufficiency of funds, has few supporters. Let us then put our shoulder to the wheel and help in these organizations, it may be that through them that Salvation will come to our nation.
